The story opens with Swami’s father reading a newspaper at night. He call Swami and tells him a story of a boy who saves himself from a tiger. The boy climbed up a tree and waited for almost half a day. Then people came and killed the tiger. Swami is doubtful how could a boy fight with a tiger. His father tells that it is possible. One must have courage than strength and age. Swami now gets a challenge from his father to sleep alone in his office room. But Swami always sleeps beside his grandma. It is not his habit to sleep alone. Swami is scared because he has got a fearful challenge. However, Swami tries to divert the discussion. He tells his father that his club is going to buy new bats and balls. But his father is steady in his decision and orders him to do it.Swami requests his father that he will sleep alone from the next month. His father is now angry with him and rebukes for sleeping beside his grandma and mother like a baby. Swami’s mother is beside them. She answers not to point towards her. She doesn’t know anything. It is only his own mother who is responsible for this. However, at night Swami goes onto his bed as regular. He pulls the blanket over his face. But his father comes and orders him to get up. Swami fears and sees his father as ghost. His grandma requests not to disturb him. But his father rolls up his bed and walks towards the office room. Swami hesitates for a moment and finally follows his father.Swami appeals to his father to let him sleep in the hall room. The office room is dirty. But his father rejects. Swami is angry on his father. He hates the newspaper. However, as the night advances Swami becomes silenced. He remembers all those stories of ghost and devils. He hears the music of watch, trees and insects. Swami remembers how once a ghost carried his old friend to Nepal. Then he goes under the bench and tries to sleep. He dreams of a tiger chasing him. He then opens his eyes and puts his hands out to feel grandma. But no one is there. Swami starts sweating with fright.

Suddenly he listens that someone is walking down. Swami fears that his end has come. So he crawls out from under the bed and hugs the person tightly. Swami bites him to cry. Then his father, cook and a servant enter and catch the person. Thus he becomes a hero. Swami gets respect from everyone. He even gets an offer to join the police.
