The histogram and stem-and-leaf plot both show the same data for age of shoppers in a store at a given time.
Histogram and stem-and-leaf plot. The histogram contains frequency of number of shoppers based upon the age of shoppers. Age 10 to 19 is 6, 20 to 29 is 7, 30 to 39 is 4, and 40 to 49 is 1. The stem-and-leaf plot contains a key of stem 1 and leaf 6 means 16. The graph contains stem 0 and no leaves; stem 1 with leaves 1, 6, 8, 8, 9, and 9; stem 2 with leaves 0, 2, 3, 5, 6, 6, and 8; stem 3 with leaves 2, 5, 6, and 9; and stem 4 with leaf 4.

Compare and contrast the two representations describing what different aspects of the data they show.

Answer:

The most obvious way to tell if a distribution is approximately normal is to look at the histogram itself. If the graph is approximately bell-shaped and symmetric about the mean, you can usually assume normality.
