Punjab is a cultural region located in the Northern Indian Subcontinent. It consists of Northern India and Eastern Pakistan. The word Punjab means 'the land of five rivers' as it has rivers; Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Setluj, Bias.

It's history backs up to the Indus Valley Civilization as it catered the Harappa Civilization. It was predominantly ruled by Hindu Maharajas, with a minority of Buddhists.

This was then taken over by the Mughal Empire after the invasion of Muhammad Bin Qasim in 712 AD. Mughals ruled the region from 1524-1739.

However, it became the hub of Sikhism as all ten gurus lived and belonged to this region. They were a great resistance against the Mughal Empire.

Their ideas and way of rule was taken further by Raja Ranjeet Singh ji. He ruled Punjab from 1799-1849. He was famous for his power and grandeur.

In 1849, the British annexed the state, after several Anglo-Sikh wars. They established their trade and factories; and the colonial era started.

When British left in 1947, the state of Punjab was divided into two provinces; one for India and one for Pakistan.
