They are originated from fill tops where ice melts and it comes to the lower slops as River or lakes...when the water is collected in an enclosed area, (which is usually artificially made) is known as a pond...

A pond is a body of standing water either natural or artificial ,that is smaller than river . They may arise naturaly in floodplains as a part of river system,or they may be somewhat isolated depressions . They may contains shallow water with marsh and aquatic plants and animals . The type of life in a pond is determined by a combination of factors including water level regime .
