The poem The House of My Childhood is a description of how the house where the poet spent his childhood has changed after his grandmother’s death.

Following her death, the house on the hilltop remained empty. All the furniture in the house was removed. All that remained were a grinding stone and the brass statues of Gods that she worshipped. It appeared to the poet that even the birds had stopped singing. He recalled how the sky was filled with bird cries.

The poet felt as if he could hear his grandmother’s voice coming from the branch of a tree. With both summer and spring gone, the house had a deserted look. The poet went around the house exploring it from all sides.
