The human body is able to metabolise D-Glucose and not the L-glucose. Why? Because in order to metabolize glucose your body must have an enzyme that fits the glucose molecule. The enzyme humans have only fits D-glucose, not L-glucose which is essentially the mirror image of D-glucose.
