Given -

  • Length of Hypotenuse is 25 m

  • Length of 1st side is 20 m

To find -

  • Length of 2nd side

Formula used -

  • Pythagoras theorem

Solution -

In the question, we are provided with the length of hypotenuse and one side of a triangle, and we need to find it's 2nd side, for that, we will take Hypotenuse as 'h', 1st side as 'a' and 2nd side as 'b' and after that, we will apply Pythagoras theorem, from that, we will find out the 2nd side.

According to question -

Length of Hypotenuse, h = 25 m

Length of 1st side, a = 20 m

Length of 2nd side = b

Pythagoras theorem -

 \tt \:  {(h)}^{2} \:  =  \:  {(a)}^{2} \:  +  \:  {(b)}^{2}  \\

On substituting the values -

 \tt \longrightarrow \:  {(h)}^{2} \:  =  \:  {(a)}^{2} \:   +  \:  {(b)}^{2} \\  \\  \tt \longrightarrow \:  {(25)}^{2} \:  =  {(20)}^{2} \:  +  \:  {(b)}^{2} \\  \\  \tt \longrightarrow\: 625 \:  =  \: 400 \:  +  \:  {(b)}^{2} \\  \\  \tt \longrightarrow \:  {(b)}^{2} \:  = 625 \:  - 400 \\  \\  \tt \longrightarrow {(b)}^{2} \:  = \:  225 \\  \\  \tt  \longrightarrow \:  {(b)}^{2}  \:  =  \sqrt{255} \\  \\  \tt \longrightarrow \: b \:  = 15 \: m

Answer:

Given :-

  • Hypotenuse = 25 m
  • 1st side = 20 m

To Find :-

2nd side

Solution :-

We know that

h² = p² + b²

On putting value

 \sf \:  {25}^{2}  =  {20}^{2}  +  {b}^{2}

 \sf \:  {b}^{2}  =  {25}^{2}  -  {20}^{2}

 \sf \:  {b}^{2}  = 625 - 400

 \sf \:  {b}^{2}  = 225

 \sf \: b =  \sqrt{225}

 \sf \: b = 15
