Then other side = x+4

x² + (x+4)² = 18²

=> x² + x² + 16 + 8x - 324 = 0

=> 2x² + 8x - 308 = 0

=> x² + 4x - 154 = 0

Using quadratic formula,

x = [-4 +- √(4²+4×154)] / 2

= (-4 +-√632)/2 = -2+-√(158)

But,

- 2 - √(158) will be negative and side can't be negative.

Therefore,

√(158) - 2 ~ 10.56 is the shorter side.
