let x be the shorter leg of traingle

so, hypotenus = x +9

& shorter leg = x

& longer leg = 15............ (given)

by hypotenus theorem

2. 2. 2

(hypotenus) = (s leg) + (l leg)

2. 2. 2

(x +9 ) = x + 15

2. 2

x +2×9+81 =x + 225

x18+81 = 225....( x get cancelled )

18x=225 - 81

x = 144 / 18

x = 8

so ,

shorter leg is 8feet

&hypotenus is x+9 = 8+9=17 feet
