Pythagoras Theorem state that the square on the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle is equal in area to the sum of the squares on the other two sides.

Recall:

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

\text {area of a triangle = }\frac{1}{2} \times \text{base} \times \text{height}

Find the length of the base:

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

a^2 + 12^2 = 20^2

a^2 = 20^2 - 12^2

a^2 = 256

a = 13 \text { m}

Find the area of the triangle:

\text {area of a triangle = }\frac{1}{2} \times \text{base} \times \text{height}

\text {area of the triangle = }\frac{1}{2} \times 12 \times 13

\text {area of the triangle = } 78 \text{ m}^2
