Let the other side be x cm.
Hypotenuse^2=Base^2+Altitude ^2
17^2= 8^2 + x^2
289= 64 +x^2
289-64=x^2
225=x^2
225^(1/2)=x
15=x
x=15
Therefore, other side is 15 cm.
