The idealistic liberal-democratic sentiment of nationalism became a narrow creed with limited ends because there was opposition all around regarding the colonial domination and ideas belonging to freedom became the face of nationalism in context of Balkan Nationalism in the early 19th century.

Thus, this rivalry and tug of war between Balkan states and others become a triggering factor for the First World War.
