. The image of an object formed by a mirror is real , inverted and is of magnification -1.If

the image is at a distance of 40cm from the mirror, where is the object placed? Where would

the image be if the object is moved 20cm towards the mirror? State reason and also draw ray

diagram for the new position of the object to justify y

Hi

your answer is as follows :-

The magnification is -1, this shows that the images is if same size and is formed inverted.

according to the question, :-

  • when object is placed at 40cm an image of -1 magnification is formed.
  • When an object is placed at C, then only the image is formed at C and of same size but inverted.
  • therefore, from here we conclude that, the Radius of Curvature is of 40cm.

When the object is moved 20cm towards the mirror :-

  • we know the Radius of curvature is of measure 40cm. So, the measure of focal length would be 20cm.
  • So, when the object is moved 20cm towards the Mirror, it will be placed at Focal length. Hence, The image will then be formed at Infinity.
