The image of the object formed by a mirror is real, inverted and is of magnification -1. If the image is at a distance of 40 cm from the mirror, where is the object placed? Where would the image be if the object is moved 20 cm towards the mirror? State reason and also draw ray diagram for the new position of the object to justify your answer

As the image formed is real and inverted the object is placed in front of a concave mirror
m=-1=-v/u
u=-40/-1=40
Hence the object is placed at a distance of 40 cm from the mirror
As the image and the object are obtained at same distance the object is placed at the center of curvature
Focal length=C/2=20 cm
Now the object is moved by 20 cm
This means that the object is placed at the focus hence the image will be formed at infinity
