I agree with the line "The importance of a thing dawns upon us when it is no longer with us". Perhaps many of us will agree to that statement and universal truth.

Often in many a person's life, we do not realize the true value of someone close to us. Let that be a friend, wife, husband, son, daughter, parents or even a thing that we use. We may ignore that person or that thing over some duration of time.

We could be thinking that we could do without that person or thing, as alternatives seem to exist. So we do that.  However, in one's life, one encounters many tough situations and testing times. When the things at hand do not serve the good purpose that the previously neglected thing used to serve, we realize the mistake. When the other persons do not give us the same comfort that the person we lost earlier, used to give us, then we realize our mistake.

Clearly the persons who lost money or wife or husband would say that.  Also, due to arrogance or pride, we could distance ourselves from someone, who wants us. That is not right. Do not throw away things that could be valuable to us, because some other things seem to replace that.
