When a transfusion is given, it is preferable for patients to receive blood of the same ABO and RhD group. However, in an emergency or special circumstance, if the same blood group isn’t readily available, a patient may be given another group that their immune system will not react to. hope it helps you

it is necessary to know the blood group before blood transfusion as every type of blood group contains a specific antigen like a + contains a antigen and b + blood type b antigen. Blood group B contains aunty and blood group A contains ntb proteins. If different blood groups are transfused agglutination will start which will kill the victim point so it is necessary. Blood group O is exception it does not have antigen except RH antigen
