Importance of secondary growth in plants:-

1. It provides strength to the roots.

2. In a plant it plays important role in the formation of aerial parts.

3. It helps in maintaining of proper minerals & availability of water in plants.

4. Annual rings will not be present in them usually.

5. In them there will be no any effect in the roots for any change in the environment.

6. In monocot roots secondary growth is not possible.

7. Pith rays which is also known as medullary rays in considered as Secondary growth in cambia and all the dicot roots.
