Given:

✰ The income of a person is increased by 10%

✰ Then the income of a person is decreased by 10%

To find:

✠ The change in his income.

Solution:

Let the income of a person be Rs. 100.

When the income of a person is increased by 10%

( We will add the increase in the income of a person to the income of a person we have assumed. We will convert the percentage of increase in income to a simple decimal number ).

➛ The income of a person = 100 + 10% of 100

➛ The income of a person = 100 + 10/100 × 100

➛ The income of a person = 100 + 10

➛ The income of a person = 110

When the income of a person is decreased by 10%

( We will substract the decrease in the income of a person from the income of a person [ we get after adding 10% ]. We will convert the percentage of decrease in income to a simple decimal number ).

➛ The income of a person = 110 - 10% of 110

➛ The income of a person = 110 - 10/100 × 110

➛ The income of a person = 110 - 10/10 × 11

➛ The income of a person = 110 - 11

➛ The income of a person = 99

Now,

➤ The change in his income = 100 - 99

➤ The change in his income = 1

➤ Percentage of change in income = 1/100 × 100%

➤ Percentage of change in income = 1%

The change in his income = 1%
