The common features of the independent regional states of Bengal, Hyderabad and Awadh were:

1. These independent regional kingdoms were carved out by Mughal nobles. They were suspicious of some of the administrative systems they had inherited, particularly the jagirdari system.

2. They contracted with the revenue farmers for the collection of revenue instead of relying on the officers of the state.

3. In these states the rich bankers and merchants lent money to revenue farmers, received land as security and collected taxes through their agents.
