The index of refraction for Lucite is 1.5. What is the approximate speed of light in the Lucite?

Given - 
Refractive Index of Lucite(ₐμ₂) = 1.5 

We know, 
Speed of the Light in air = 3 × 10⁸ m/s.

Using the Formula,

  ₐμ₂ =   \frac{Speed of the light in air}{Speed of the light in lucite}
 
  ⇒  1.5  = 3 × 10⁸/Speed of the light in Lucite
⇒  Speed of the light in Lucite = 2 × 10⁸ m/s.

Thus, the speed of the light in  Lucite is 2 × 10⁸ m/s.

∵Refactive index of medium = speed of light in vaccum/speed of light in medium

Given,
Refractive index of Lucite = 1.5
And we know, speed of light in vaccum = 3 × 10⁸ m/s
Now, we have to find speed of light in Lucite ,

∴ 1.5 = 3 × 10⁸ /speed of light in Lucite
Speed of light in Lucite = 3 × 10⁸/1.5 = 2 × 10⁸ m/s

Hence, answer is 2 × 10⁸ m/s
