The Indigo revolt (or Nilbidroha) was a peasants' movement and subsequent uprising of indigo-farmers against the indigo planters that arose in Bengal in 1859.

it was done by the peasents as the british forced them to only grow indigo which made thier land unfertile and the  land detoriated .
