Answer:

The industrial revolution led to a greater urbanization with farmers migrating to urban factories for work.

Yes this trend is seen in India too. Wherever new industries are set up, farmers from rural areas migrate in search of livelihood whether it be agro-based industries or mineral -based industries. For e.g. , when first weaving and spinning mill was set up in Madras in 1854 , more than 10000 farmers usually worked in farms along with that as labours in industries for better livelihood and income. Most of the farmers only remain engaged in factories.

A similar trend was seen in 1854 only , when first cotton mill was set up in Bombay (Mumbai) . Farmers and tenants moved from rural areas of Gujarat and Maharashtra to Bombay (Mumbai) for livelihood.

This trend was also seen in 1869 and 1904 when first jute mill at Rishra (near Kolkata, now in Bangladesh) and first cement industry at Chennai was set up respectively.

Though this increases the income of rural people but it is usually not good for the development of both rural areas as well as urban areas. This is because population in urban areas increases, resources become less, slums start emerging, poverty increases, etc.

The following are the suggestions to reduce this :

i) Farmers should be given better price for their crops and other subsidies like Crop Policies, Kissan Credit Card, etc. Minimum Support Price ( M.S.P.) should be st up by government regularly to ensure better price for the crops to farmers with respect to price of goods available in market.

ii) Most of workers in rural areas are tenants i.e. they work on other's farms and get evicted regularly. Thus, they must be given a share from surplus land so that they can get regular livelihood.

iii) Farmers must be given cheap loans to cultivate their fields so that they can grow crops on thier field and do not migrate to urban areas in search of work, when they do not have enough money. Also their crops may get devasted and perished due to rain, drought and other natural calamities and diseases like plague. So their must be a better telecommunication facility which gives farmer weather reports, farming techniques, etc. though radio, newspaper, television, etc.

iv) Zamindaari system must be removed so that farmers can become owner of their own fields so that they do not have to search for work. Security of tenure must be done so that famers cannot be evicted from their work regularly. Also better wages must be ensured for tenants and farmers for their labour in other's field.

v) Land Ceiling must be done so that those who have extra,do not accumulate land and poor must also get land. Co - Operative farming must be promoted so that farmers can grow crop collectively and reduce any kind of loss.
