1The French empire was divided into 3 estates but only the third estate had to bear the burden of paying taxes.
2.Only a small amount peasants owned the land they cultivated.
3.The members of the first 2 estates which were the clergy and the nobility used to enjoy certain privileges by birth which included exemption from paying taxes, extracting feudal dues from peasants.

These factors which indicated inequality in the French regime were major player in the path to the revolution.

Answer:

a) French society was divided into three estates, that is clergy, nobility and the common man.

b) The members of church and nobility enjoyed certain privileges by birth, the most important being the exemption from paying taxes to the state.

c) Feudal dues were extracted by nobles from peasants and 1/10th of the produce was given to clergy in the form of taxes. All members of third estate had to pay taxes which burdened them and this frustration led to the cause of French revolution.
