Putting the fur or faux fur on the inside of a coat or jacket is more effective in holding in warmth than putting it on the outside. Fur creates tiny air pockets that trap the warmth and extend it in a trapping layer over the skin, keeping it from escaping to the outside. When people feel cold “come in” toward their skin in a cold environment, it is actually a case of the body heat being lost, moving outward, and the person feels chilled because they lost heat. An animal’s fur grows just outside/over their skin layer, so it holds the heat close to the skin. Wearing a fur lined coat does the same thing.
