If the current is flowing in an electric circuit from South to North direction and a magnetic compass is placed over the conducting wire, the needle of the compass deflects in the direction of west. This is known as SNOW rule which helps to predict the direction of magnetic field.

Answer:

When a current flow in a wire, it createsa circular magnetic field around the wire. This magnetic field can detect the needle of a magnetic compass. The strength of magnetic field is greater closer to the wire, and increase if the current increases.
