The ionisation enthalpy decreases as we go from top to bottom in the group, while it increases as we move from left to right in the period ?

here is your answer:
ionisation enthalapy depends on the following factors-
1) size of atom
2) effective nuclear charge (zeff)
3) penetration effect
4) electronic configuration

according to size:-
a)along period - as we move along a period, I.E. (ionisation enthalpy) increases because zeff increases i.e. I.E. is directly proportional to zeff

b) along group- the atomic size and the number of shells increases. the electron present in between nucleus and valance electron shield the valance electron to reduce thevcontrol of nucleus as a result it becomes easier to remove electron, hence I.E. decrease.
