The ionization energy of a hydrogen like bohr atom is 4 rydberg. What is the radius of the first orbit of this atom?

We know that for Bohr’s hydrogen atom the energy for the nth orbital is given as E(n) = - Ionization Energy / n^2 .

From the question we get that the I.E. is 4R hence the energy will be               E = -4R / n^2 .

Now, to find the radius of the first orbit of the hydrogen atom will be given as radius = 0.529*n^2/Z where the value of Z is 2 and the value of n is 1.

So, radius is 0.529*1/2 = 0.265 angstrom = 2.645*10^-9 meter.
