The force applied at the middle of gate= 100N

The distance of gate from hinge = 3m

The distance at which the 100 Newton of force is applied = 3/2 = 1.5 m

The maximum force will be required if the force is applied at the free end of the gate= 3m

Thus , by principle of moments

F1 × D1 = F2 × D2

100 × 1.5 = F2 × 3

Thus , F2 = ( 100 × 1.5 ) / 3 = 50N

1. Thus , least force which can open the door is 50N
