The old field

• The poet calls the field as an old field since the people who visited the field earlier and had developed a liking for have now abandoned it.
• The children who used to play there in the hot sun are literally absent. The dogs which used to enjoy the land and the grass are not visiting the field anymore. Hence the land has become dark and cold. The warmth which the land offered had now become obsolete.
• There are birds which have inhabited the forest. Since the land is not celebrated like before, the birds which loved the land earlier had withdrawn their penchant for it.
