When an amino acid is present in its zwitterion form, the overall charge on it is zero.
- A zwitterion is an ion that has both positive as well as negative charges on it. But the net charge is zero.
- The isoelectric point is represented by the symbol=pI
- Formula of pI is :
pI = ( pKa1 + pKa2) / 2
- pKa1 is for the carboxylic group deprotonation
- pKa2 is for the amine group protonation
