Question :-

The Jamaican bobsled team is sliding down the course at 25m/ s. They hit the brakes on their sled so that it decelerates at a uniform rate of 0.43 m /s 2 • How far does the sled travel before coming to rest?

☞ Solution :-

 \longrightarrow \tt  {v}^{2}  -  {u}^{2}  = 2as

Final velocity will be zero as it finally does come to rest

So, the equation turns to u² = 2as

deceleration = 0.43m/s²

As it takes 85 meters to come to rest after brakes applied and deceleration comes into effect distance covered or S will be 85m

 \longrightarrow \tt   \sqrt{2 \times 0.43 \times 85}  = 4

 \longrightarrow \tt u = 8.55m/s²

Now for time needed t = u/a as v = 0

As v = u +at

t = 19.88secs
