Given:

Discount promotion at the restaurant= 15%

The cost of the meal that the family pays = $78.65

Tip left = 20%

To find:

The total cost of the meal.

Solution:

Since the family leaves a tip of 20% of the price of the meal.

Therefore tip = (20/100) * 78.65 = $15.73

The cost will be now= cost of meal+ tip

= $ 78.65+15.73 = $94.38

Since discount is 15% of the cost after tip is added:

Discount = (15/100) * 94.38 = $14.157

The final cost= cost - discount

= $94.38-14.157 = $80.223

Therefore the total cost of the meal paid by the family will be $80.233.
