Valli's bus journey was an amalgamation of a wide range of emotions and observations that changed the way she looked at the world.

• On one hand, it was her dream to one day ride the bus and she finally was able to do so while her mother was asleep. Riding the bus made her feel like a grown-up and showed her the various things that were spread out across the town.
• She saw so many beautiful things such as the scenery; the palm trees, the paddy fields and so much more. In all these views, she enjoyed the change of scenery.
• She looked at the busy nature of life and how people were in a rush to move from one place to another.
• But the sorrows that followed her changed the way she looked at a bus journey. She saw a dead cow that was struck by a car and a woman who was chewing a betel nut in a very distasteful manner. These sights showed her another side of the world which would impact her throughout her life and change the way she looked at bus rides.
