Answer:

Start by listing the information given in the problem:

There were 11 innings in the game.

The innings were divided equally among 3 pitchers.

There were 11 innings divided among 3 pitchers.

To find how long each one pitched, divide 11 by 3.

11÷3= 11/2

Rewrite  11/3 as a mixed number.

11/3 = 3 2/3

So, each one pitched for 3  2/3  innings.

Answer: Each of the pitchers for the Stingrays pitch pitched for 3 innings.

Each Stingrays pitcher had to have pitched for 11/3 = 3 and 2/3 innings if the game went 11 innings and each of the team's three pitchers went the full distance.

You cannot, however, pitch two-thirds of an inning, therefore we must round up or down. The total number of innings pitched by the Stingrays would be 12 (3 pitchers 4 innings each), if we round up. Each pitcher would have pitched for four innings. This cannot be right because it is one inning longer than the real number of innings in the game.

If we round down, each pitcher would have pitched for three innings, giving the Stingrays a total of nine innings pitched (three pitchers three innings each). This means that the Kicking Cacti may still have batted if they didn't score any runs in the subsequent two innings.
