Hemu got a royal status when he defeated Akbar's Mughal forces in the Battle of Delhi in 1556.

He took on the title of Vikramaditya which was also earlier adopted by a lot of Hindu kings. After a month, Hemu got wounded and was subsequently captured at the time of the Second Battle of Panipat. Bairam Khan, Akbar's regent, beheaded him later.

Hemu was the Chief Minister of Adil Shah Suri. He was a distinguished Hindu general at a time in Indian history when the Afghans and Mughals were fighting for retaining power throughout North India.

He valiantly fought the Afghan rebels in North India right from Punjab to Bengal. He also faced the mighty Mughal forces Akbar in Delhi and Agra. He won 22 battles for his master, Adil Shah.
