❃ The transition from yhe ancient period to medieval period of Indian history was a gradual process that happend with the slow collapse of the Gupta Empire(480-550) and the empire of Harsha (606-647), ending the 'Classical' period of time.

❃ As the empire of Harshavardhana broke down, some warrior cheifs called samantsas became more powerful.

❃ As this time, between 750-1000, there were several dynasties ruling large areas for long periods, as well as many other dynasties ruling smaller areas, often playing some form of tribute to larger states.

The Rajputs were the most important ruler of North-west India.
