Kshatriya is one of the four social orders of Hindu Society. To fight in the war and maintain peace in the normal days are the two role of Kashatriyas in medieval era of India. In short we can call Kshatriya as Order of Defences.

Brahmins
Vaishya
Shudra
Kshatriya is a social order but Rajput is a caste that come under Kshatriya order. It is not necessary to be a Rajput to join the Kshatriya order.
