Answer:

Land resources in India are primarily divided into agricultural land, forest land, land meant for pasture and grazing, and waste land. Waste land includes rocky, arid and desert areas, and land used for other non-agricultural purposes such as housing, roads and industry .

India is the second most populated country of the world. Due to this huge population which is increasing day by day. The need of land resources to make more livable and factory sites are also increasing. That's why the land use pattern is changing day by day .

Land use pattern of India is not same everywhere

Explanation:

  • Land is one of  the most important resources and its use is one of the major factor affecting the development of a country.
  • India has a great diversity of soil cover throughout its area.Hence,it has different land use pattern.
  • Land resources in India are categorized into the following categories:-
  1. Agriculture land
  2. land available for grazing and pasture
  3. land available for forest cover
  4. waste land(these include non-agricultural land like building houses, industries ,land with rocky terrain, etc.)
  • The recent data suggests that approximately 54% of the overall land area is available for cultivation.22.5% is covered by forests and 3.45% is available for grazing and pasture. The rest of the available land is treated as waste land.
  • Since independence the demand for more land to expand agriculture, the land under forest cover has not increased.
  • The main factors that affected the land under the forest cover are:-
  1. Infrastructural forest development
  2. Developmental works
  3. Increase in agricultural lands
  4. Industrialization and urbanization
  • Therefore,a minimal growth in the forest cover has been observed since independence i.e, only about 4%.
