Answer :

›»› The larger angle is 99 and small angle is 81.

Given :

  • The larger angle of two supplementary angles exceeds smaller by 18 degrees.

To Find :

  • Express the situation in linear equation of two variables.

Solution :

Let,

The larger angle be "x" and smaller angle be "y"

Larger angle exceeds smaller angle by 18.

→ x - y = 18 .....(1)

Both angles are supplementary.

Sum of both angles = 180°

→ x + y = 180 .....(2)

Our equation,

  • x - y = 18 .....(1)
  • x + y = 180 .....(2)

From equation (1)

→ x - y = 18

x = y + 18

Put the value of x in equation (2)

→ x + y = 180

→ y + 18 + y = 180

→ 18 + y + y = 180

→ 18 + 2y = 180

→ 2y = 180 - 18

→ 2y = 162

y = 81

Put the value of y in equation (2)

→ x - y = 18

→ x - 81 = 18

→ x = 18 + 81

x = 99

Therefore,

  • Larger angle = x = 99
  • Smaller angle = y = 98

Hence, the larger angle is 99 and small angle is 81.
