The larger of two complementary angles exceeds the smaller by 22°. If y is the larger angle and x is the smaller angle, find the angles.

x = 79°, y = 101°

x = 56°, y = 34°

x = 34°, y = 56°

x = 101°, y = 79°

Answer:

Complementary Angles mean two angles that sum up to 90°

So in this question, we have two angles adding up to 90°.

Let's take one of them as x and the other y.

We know y is 22° larger than x, so we can also call y as x + 22.

Let's use y as x+22.

That means,

x + y = 90°

x + (x+22) = 90°

2x + 22 = 90°

2x = 68°

x = 68/2

x = 34°.

That means, x, the smaller angle, is 34°.

So y is 22° more than x, so 34°+22° = 56°.

Therefore:

x = 34°

y = 56°

Option C

also, 34 + 56 = 90, so complementary.

Hope it Helps,
