Given
Larger angle = exceeds thrice the smaller by 20°
= 3(x) + 20
=(3x + 20)°
(3x + 20) + x = 180°
(Because given angles are supplementary)
3x + 20 + x = 180
4x + 20 = 180
4x = 180 - 20
4x = 160
x = 160/4
x = 40
Smaller angle = x = 40°
Larger angle = (3x + 20)
= 3(40) + 20
= 120 + 20
= 140°
Therefore the angles are 140° and 40°.
