To find : Largest number

Solution:

Let say N is the largest number which which devides 53 and 87 leaving remainder 2

53 = AN + 2  => AN = 51

87 = BN + 2 => BN =  85

Hence N is the HCF of 51  & 85

51 = 3 * 17

85 = 5  17

=> HCF = 17

N = 17

17 is the largest number which which devides 53 and 87 leaving remainder 2

53 = 17 * 3 + 2

87 = 17 * 5 + 2
