The largest possible sphere is carved out of a wooden solid cube of side 7 cm.Find the volume of wood left.

Sol:
Side of the cube = 7 cm
The radius of the largest possible sphere = 7 2 = 3.5 cm
Volume of the sphere carved out = 4 3 πr3 cu units
= 4 3 × 22 7 ×(7 2 )3
= 179.7 cu cm
Volume of the cube of edge 'a' units = (a)3 cu units
Volume of the cube = 73 = 343 cu cm
Volume of the wood left = 343 - 179.7 = 163.3 cu cm
