Given info : The laser system is capable of lasing at infra-red wavelength of 3.3913μm.

To find : the energy difference between the upper and lower level of this wavelength , is..

solution : wavelength, λ = 3.3913 μm = 3.3913 × 10^-6 m

using formula, energy difference, ∆E = hc/λ

= (6.63 × 10¯³⁴ Js × 3 × 10^8 m/s)/(3.3913 × 10^-6)

= 6.63 × 3/3.3913 × 10¯²⁰ J

= 5.865 × 10¯²⁰ J

we know, 1 eV = 1.6 × 10^-19 J

so, 5.865 × 10^-20 J = (5.865 × 10^-20)/(1.6 × 10^-19)

= 0.366 eV

Therefore the energy difference between the upper level and the lower level is 0.366 eV.
