Yes, the last lesson had turned out to be "lasting lesson" for all because Franz had always ignored his mother tongue but oncehe knew that, that day would be his last lesson for French, his mother tongue,he felt very sorry. It turned out to be a lasting lesson as now he would never ignore or look down his mother tongue because he had already ignored it and had even lost the chance to learn it properly. This made him feel shameful as he could not speak his mother tongue and also he also felt sorry.
