The lateral surface area of the hemisphere is 350 square cm whose total surface area is 525 square cm .

Given

The total surface area of the hemisphere = 525 square cm .

To find:

The CSA (curved surface area) or lateral surface area

Solution:

Let us assume that the radius of the hemisphere is "r".

Now the complete surface area of a hemisphere(half sphere) is given by 3\pi r^2  which is the sum of the curved surface area and the plane fixed surface.

Lateral surface area =  \frac{1}{2} \text { of } 4\pi r^2 =2\pi r^2 .

plane circular surface area = \pi r^2 (area of a circle)

Now the surface area of the hemisphere = 525 square cm

Using the above information we can write :

3\pi r^2 = 525\\\\or, \pi r^2 = 175\\\\or, 2 \pi r^2 = 350

Again we know that the lateral surface area is calculated by  2\pi r^2 .

Therefore the lateral surface area of the hemisphere is 350 square cm.
