The latitudinal and longitudinal extent of india is about 30.Despite this fact east west stretch appears to be smaller than north south stretch.Why?

As we know latitudes are at equal distance from each other, but Distance between longitudes decreases when one of them moves from equator towards poles. That's why the east west stretch appears to be smaller than north south stretch.
