The second number would be 60

Given

  • LCM 120
  • HCF 12
  • one of the numbers is 24

To find

  • the other number

Solution

we are provided with the LCM and HCF of two numbers and a number among it is also provided and are asked to find the second number.

let the two numbers be a and b in this case,

the relation connecting LCM , HCF and product of the both numbers are,

LCM × HCF = a ×b

a = 24 (given)

to find b

therefore,

120 × 12 = 24× b

1440 = 24b

or, b = 1440/24

or, b = 60

Therefore, the second number would be 60

The second number is 60.

LCM and HCF of two numbers are 120 and 12.

One number is 24.

Find the other number.

Solution-In arithmetic and number theory, the least common multiple, lowest common multiple, or smallest common multiple of two integers a and b, usually denoted by lcm, is the smallest positive integer that is divisible by both a and b.

HCF means the Highest Common Factor. When finding the factors of two or more numbers, some numbers are found to be common.

Let the two number is a and b a is given i.e. 24.

Now

Apply the formula

HCF\times LCM=a\times b

120\times 12=24\times b

\frac{120\times 12}{24}=b

b=60

Hence, the second number is 60.
