Step-by-step explanation:

let the no. be x and y

given: x-y=4. -(1)

x+y=8. -(2)

by elimination method

we get

2x=12

x=12/2

x=6

on putting value of x in (1)

6-y=4

y=6-4

y=2

thus the no. are 6 & 2

and lcm(x,y)=lcm(6,2)=6

we know that for any no. a and b

lcm(a,b) *hcf(a,b)= a*b

lcm(6,2)*hcf(6,2)=6*2

6*hcf(6,2)=12

hcf(6,2)= 12/6

hcf(6,2)=2

thus hcf of the numbers is 2
