SOLUTION

GIVEN

The LCM of two prime numbers p and q is 247

TO DETERMINE

The value of 5p - 2q

EVALUATION

Here it is given that the LCM of two prime numbers p and q is 247

Let us assume that p > q

Since p and q are prime numbers

So HCF ( p, q) = 1

Now we have

Product of the numbers = HCF × LCM

⇒ p × q = 1 × 247

⇒ p × q = 247

⇒ p × q = 19 × 13

Since we have assumed p > q

∴ p = 19 , q = 13

Now 5p - 2q

= ( 5 × 19 ) - ( 2 × 13 )

= 95 - 26

= 69
